Origin of the Center for Nanoscience and Technology

                 With the advent of the Nanotechnology,

technologically advanced countries have been investing heavily in the research and

development of Nanoscience and Technology, in order to be the leading players in this rising industry. Recently, the Executive Yuan has officially approved the plan to include the Central Taiwan science parks as one of Taiwan’s Nanoscience and Technology R&D hotspots. The Central Taiwan science parks will continue to utilize Nanotechnology in the development of industries in precision machinery, electronic, information and optoelectronic devices, aerospace engineering and biotechnology. With this rising development and need in the research of Nanoscience and Technology, the center was founded in August, 2003.

                 Tunghai University is located in close proximity to the Central Taiwan science parks. By utilizing this competitive advantage, the center is in charge of integrating all the researchers and research resources in Nanotechnology and in promoting cross disciplinary research and teaching co-ops with industries. Also, the center is in charge of actively participating in government led research and development Nanotechnology projects.

Mission Statement

The Center of Nanoscience and Technology was established to coordinate all teaching and research related to the field of Nanotechnology, and to help develop cooperative research exchanges with both overseas and domestic industry and institutions in order to increase the academic competitiveness of the center and the university.

Our Mission

1. To promotethe cross disciplinary research on Nanotechnology.

2. To plan, coordinate and implement Nanotechnology program in Tunghai.

3. To promote the academic exchanges with overseas and domestic research institutions in the R&D of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.

4. To comply with the national technological industry policy and to aggressively apply

     for grants in order to offer R&D services.

5. To host Nonotechnology related conferences and offer related training courses.

6. To help apply patents for research results and accomplishmentsand to offer industry co-op and assist in technology transfer.

Our Vision

              To be in sync with the latest trend in the development of Nanosicence and technology and to comply with the government’s policy to promote the R&D of Nanotechnology, the center plans to continue to integrate all the personnel and resources on campus to carry out research in Nanotechnology and develop talents in this field. By being in close proximity to the Central Taichung science parks, the center wishes to contribute and help the University become an academic hot spot in the field of Nanotechnology research. And, the center hopes to become a base for Nanotechnology research, where talents in Nanotechnology are developed for the 21st century.

Services overview

                 1. The center provides R&D services in technology and product development for                  companies in materials, chemistry, chemical engineering and electronics and related                  industries.  

              2. The center offers professional training for companies in materials, chemistry,             chemical engineering and electronics and related industries.

              3. The Nano test center provides sample testing services for Nano-related materials.

              4. To assist the innovation incubator center in the research of in materials, chemistry,             chemical engineering and electronics and related industries.
